Using Reflex MailSafe Client
When Reflex MailSafe Client is installed, the first change you will notice is the appearance of a new icon on the right of the toolbar, and a new menu called MailSafe. If you have the toolbar turned off, these icons will not be displayed |

The MailSafe menu item gives access to the options for the program, while the Key icon opens the Certificate Manager program. When you open a window to create a new e-mail, two additional icons will be displayed, in addition to the Certificate Manager icon and the MailSafe menu shown above:
The blue padlock icon toggles encryption of messages and attachments On or Off. The seal icon similarly controls digital signing of e-mail. Reflex MailSafe Client makes sending and receiving e-mail both simple and secure. Outgoing mail will be automatically secured depending on the settings made in the Options dialog (accessed through the MailSafe menu>Security settings item).
So if you have by default selected encryption and signing for all outgoing mail, the defaults will be applied for you unless there is no applicable certificate for the recipient, or the type of encryption may not be supported by the recipient's e-mail application. In all cases where there is a possible security issue, Reflex MailSafe Client will warn you and offer options to resolve the issue.
For incoming mail, Reflex MailSafe Client will check any secure e-mail before opening it for you. If the message has been tampered with, the certificates are invalid, the sending e-mail address differs from the certificated address, you do not trust the certificate used to sign the e-mail, or the e-mail contains a virus or other potentially harmful active code Reflex MailSafe Client will warn you.
Sending secure e-mail
When you open a window to create a new e-mail, the blue padlock icon toggles encryption of messages and attachments On or Off. The seal icon similarly controls digital signing of e-mail. You can also set default settings for both these functions in the Security Settings item in the MailSafe menu. When the icons are "depressed" (as in the illustration), the functions are turned on for any e-mail you create.
Constructing a message: you create secure e-mail just like you would create any other message. Type what you like in the message area, add subject and recipients (you can send to groups or mailing lists in the normal way), and add any type of attachments to the message.
It is when you send the message that the security options are enforced.

You will be shown the dialog to the left allowing you to review the current settings. If the recipient you are sending to has a self-signed certificate this will be used now to encrypt the message. If however the recipient's certificate is counter-signed by a higher authority Reflex MailSafe Client will automatically attempt to check the validity/current status of the certificate by visiting the CRL listed within the certificate. If this is available and all is OK the process will move onto the next step. If however the certificate has been revoked or is not available you will be warned. Checking a CRL may require the PC to be online.

The next step in the process is the signing of your e-mail, you will see the following dialog box.
