Once you disable PSG manually and begin the installation of the 3rd party software, that application will want to shut down the PC for the services to be restarted and the registry to be updated. This will require a reboot, but because Disknet is not protecting the local drive as PSG is disabled it will re-enable itself at boot up causing the rest of the installation to fail as it no longer has access to write files to the local drive.

To resolve this, boot the machine into Command Prompt mode (you will need to disable the Boot Key Lock to do this, and re-enable it after you have finished). Set PSG OFF (you will need a copy of PSG.EXE from the Disknet installation disk) and the type: WIN to allow Windows to finish loading, and the files can now be successfully copied. Do not copy the PSG.EXE program onto the Disknet client's hard disks as this will introduce a potential security hole in your system. We have found a solution for network based upgrades and installs, which will be integrated into the next version of Disknet for Windows 95.
